Start Collecting Adeptus Mechanicus

As was hinted at in my last review, today I'm going to be reviewing the Start Collecting Adeptus Mechanicus boxset. Are the followers of the machine cult contained within worthy of the red planet? Read on to find out.

This is in fact the second start collecting Adeptus Mechanicus boxset, though it was called Skitarii, which was in itself a good boxset in my opinion. But enough about the past and onto the topic at hand.

Start Collecting Adeptus Mechanicus contains within it; 1Tech-Priest Enginseer, 10 Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers, 1 Skorpius Dunerider/Disintegrator. All for £60.

Now we'll price up the kits separately using Games Workshop recommended retail prices.

Tech-Priest Enginseer = £20

Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers = £27.50

Skorpius Dunerider/Disintegrator = £45

Overall, the kits within this boxset are worth £92.50. With this start collecting boxset costing £60 that's a saving of £32.50. Not the highest amount we've seen, but you're still easily getting a unit for free.

But now we move on to see if it's valuable on the tabletop.

This box is a little harder to judge than the others we've done so far due to the variety of units you can build.

The Skorpius is great in both of its rolls as a transport and as a tank. It has loads of heavy firepower and the speed to get it where you need it.

Meanwhile, the Skitarii are the mainstay of any mechanicus army and their ability to carry three plasma calivers or three transuranic arquebus is a thing of devastating beauty.

Overall, this is a good boxset, and it's one where you can buy two or three and have a playable army with a mixture of units.
